My Perspective on Red Light Therapy as a Holistic Esthetician

Red light therapy is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about tools in both the holistic health and esthetics communities and for good reason. It doesn’t just benefit your skin, it supports your overall well-being too.

As someone who looks at health and beauty from a whole-body perspective, I see red light therapy as so much more than a skin treatment. Investing in a red light therapy panel (instead of just an LED face mask) can be a game-changer because you can treat parts of your entire body, not just your face. And when you think about it, your neck, chest, thyroid, scalp, and other areas deserve just as much love as your face!

Why I Prefer a Panel Over an LED Mask

A panel gives you so much more flexibility:

  • Neck + Chest – These are some of the first areas to show aging. (you can buy a separate LED Mask add on for neck and chest if you are set on the mask!)

  • Thyroid – Red light has been shown to support thyroid health, which is such a huge topic for women right now (especially for hormones and energy).

  • Scalp – Who doesn’t want stronger, healthier hair growth?

  • Body – Any area that needs extra healing, support, or inflammation reduction can be targeted.

The only time I would recommend getting the LED Mask over a panel is if you are someone who truly doesn’t have the time to sit in front of a panel for 15-20 minutes a few times a week. I have to say though, carving out that time can be really beneficial to tune into your body and have some quiet time, listen to a good podcast or just be present with yourself. It is so relaxing.

Benefits of Red Light Therapy

The list of benefits is almost endless, but here are some of the key ones I focus on:

  • Boosts Collagen → Helps firm and smooth skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

  • Increases Mitochondrial ATP → production in skin cells, giving the skin the energy it needs to support normal skin repair, renewal and collagen production.

  • Improves Blood Flow, Oxygen, and Nutrient Delivery → supporting healthier aging, better tone, and faster recovery from inflammation or damage.

  • Activates fibroblasts → cells that build and maintain the skin’s structure, helping keep the skin firm and strong.

  • Reduces Inflammation → Supports acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, and other skin conditions.

  • Accelerates Healing → From scars to cuts and even post-procedure recovery.

  • Supports Circulation + Lymphatic Drainage → Aids detoxification and skin clarity.

  • Improves Sleep + Energy → By regulating your circadian rhythm and lowering cortisol.

  • Supports Hormonal Health + Fertility → Especially through thyroid and reproductive system support.

  • Eases Muscle Soreness + Stiffness → Great for recovery, pain relief, and mobility.

  • Joint + Wound Healing → Reduces pain and speeds healing in areas like knees, shoulders, and hips.

  • Mood + Mental Health Support → Many people find it helps with seasonal blues and overall energy.

A Fun Bonus: It benefits your pets!!

Here’s a little perk—your pets can benefit as well. Red light therapy has been used to support dogs, cats, even horses with joint pain, skin issues, and wound healing. So, if your pet lays next to you or wants to do some treatments, it will give them those same benefits!

Why Quality Matters

Not all red-light therapy devices are created equal. If you grab a cheap panel off Amazon, chances are it’s not delivering the correct wavelengths (typically around 660nm and 850nm are most effective) or enough power to actually reach deep into the skin and tissue. Many of these lower-quality devices are more like fancy flashlights—they light up, but don’t deliver the therapeutic benefits.

That’s why I always recommend investing in a trusted, medical-grade panel.

My Favorite Panel

Personally, I use and love the PlatinumLED Therapy Light Bio 300. It’s powerful, effective, and one of the best on the market. The precise wavelengths are unmatched and if you’re going to spend the time sitting in front of a light, you want to know it’s working. It also comes with the option to use blue light. This is PERFECT for anyone dealing with acne, rosacea any kind of skin irritation or redness. I promise the cheapest option for the PlatinumLED Bio Light is perfect! They have a ton of options but I found the most affordable option being incredible.

If you are looking into purchasing an LED Mask, I highly recommend getting the neck and chest mask too- our neck and chest typically show those first signs of aging! The Omnilux is the absolute best brand for this!

How to Use a Red Light Therapy Panel

Using a panel is simple and versatile. You can:

  • Place it on the floor and sit in front of it.

  • Set it up on your bed.

  • Hang it on a wall for easy daily use. (it comes with attachments!)

Expose the area you want to treat for about 15–20 minutes, at least 3 times a week. More frequent use can bring even better results, depending on your goals.

I do not wear the goggles that come with the panel! I typically do not look directly at the light. You want to expose the areas you are trying to treat. Aging? Think face, neck and chest but you can do any area of the body!

If you get period cramps, red light therapy is great to use on the stomach area—it can help ease discomfort and relax the muscles.

Final Thoughts

Red light therapy is more than just a “trend.” It’s a tool that supports skin health, hormonal balance, mental clarity, and overall vitality. From boosting collagen to improving sleep, it’s one of the most versatile treatments you can bring into your daily life!
